Fun and adventure during peak foliage awaits you. Join us on Saturday, October 5 for Copley Hospital’s annual biking event – the Copley “Moxie” Gravel Grinder. Riders can choose between 10, 25 or 50-mile scenic routes on some of the best backcountry gravel, roads and trails our Green Mountains have to offer. The event starts and ends at Lost Nation Brewing in Morrisville with post ride tacos and drinks, and music provided by Christine Malcolm and the Kate Brook Romp. Proceeds from this year’s event – a portion of the registration fee includes a tax-deductible donation to Copley – will benefit the hospital’s Emergency Department (ED).

This year’s bikers will help Copley cross the finish line on their campaign to purchase bedside monitors. ED Nurse Manager, Liz Couto, RN, explains that the monitors allow providers to observe patient vital signs – their heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and blood oxygen –  in real-time,  and will integrate with screens at the nurses’ station, allowing for continuous monitoring of each patient’s status. “Your support of this event will ensure every patient room in the ED will be outfitted the same,” said Couto. Lamoille County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Vermont, and Copley continues to experience consistent increases in ED use. In addition, patients are coming to the ED with more medically complex conditions, which requires more intensive care and monitoring from providers and staff.

Copley’s Chief Administration and HR Officer, Wayne Stockbridge, says the goal of the ED campaign is $75,000. “Thanks to the success of our earlier events, including the Stowe Art, Wine and Food fundraiser and annual golf tournament, I anticipate the Gravel Grinder will get us across the finish line for the monitors.” Stockbridge added how grateful the hospital is with the increase in sponsorship for the event, noting, “We appreciate all our supporting sponsors, but especially to our leading ‘Peak Foliage’ sponsors Bourne’s Energy and Community National Bank.”
